LVN California

The nature of work of the licensed vocational nurse in California, offers many duties. A nurse in this field also referred to as a licensed practical nurse, will normally work under the supervision of a registered nurse or a doctor. Their work may include the care of someone who is handicapped, ill, injured or in some way convalescing. Their work with a patient can be short or long term.

The licensed vocational nurse in California can care for their patient in many ways. Their responsibilities may include bedside care and keeping records of vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse or respiration. They will on occasion prepare and give injections, monitor catheters, dress wounds, or give massages. A main priority would be the patients comfort. This could involve the assistance of personal hygiene in regard to bathing and dressing a patient. They may need help with repositioning in bed and standing and walking.

It is also part of the job for an LVN in California to monitor and report back to the registered nurse or doctor any adverse reactions to medications as well as keeping a daily log of the patient's ongoing progress or possible regression. Such activities will indicate to a doctor what should be done in regard to the ongoing treatment of the patient.

A California LVN could be considered a generalist as he/she is capable of handling a myriad of duties in the health care field. You may find them in attendance in a doctor's office, a nursing home, or in the home health care field. The latter is where the need is the highest as more and more of our ill, injured and elderly are deciding on receiving their care in the comfort of their own home. Not only is medical care provided by the LVN but they may also make, and if required, administer meals. They can also teach other family members in some of the more basic health care duties.

LVN's in California and elsewhere will normally work a forty hour week. For patients that require around the clock care, many LVN's will work weekends, holidays, and nights. Some may only wish to work part-time as the position requires many hours on one's feet as well as the weight involved in moving a patient in bed. There is the stress of heavy workloads, the possibility of back injury, and the hazard of being submitted to infectious diseases. On top of all this, there is the patient in their care that can be uncooperative, confused, or agitated. The duties of the LVN may seem thankless, but to the qualified nurse, the rewards far outreach the demands.

The need for home health care services is on the rise. The prospect of employment of the licensed vocational nurse in California is at an all time high. In today's world of medical treatments people are living longer than ever before increasing the need for the LVN in home setting.
